About this Episode
Passage:
1 He left there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him.
2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. “Where did this man get these things? ” they said. “What is this wisdom that has been given to him, and how are these miracles performed by his hands? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t his sisters here with us? ” So they were offended by him.
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his household.” 5 He was not able to do a miracle there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief. He was going around the villages teaching. -- Mark 6:1-6 (CSB)
Song:
Kingdom of God by Jon Guerra
Lyrics:
Oh that I could see your face
How I’m longing for the day
Brighter sun of holy grace
Make my heart a holy place
Blessed are the poor who have nothing to own
Blessed are the mourners who are crying alone
Blessed are the guilty who have nowhere to go
For their hearts have a road to the kingdom of God
And their souls are the songs of the kingdom of God
And they will find a refuge for theirs
In the kingdom of God
Beauty shining from your face
Always longed to see this place
Is there somewhere I can stay
Even just a couple days
The Lord is our shepherd, we shall not want
In valley or pasture we shall not want
Our cup runneth over and over
For now and forever
For now and forever
The Lord is our shepherd we shall not want
In valley or pasture we shall not want
Our cup runneth over and over
For now and forever
For now and forever
For now and forever
For now and forever
Oh that I could see your face
How I’m longing for the day
Prayer:
Let your mighty hand and outstretched arm, O Lord, still be our defense; your mercy and loving kindness in Jesus Christ your dear Son, our salvation; your true and holy Word, our instruction; your grace and Holy Spirit, our comfort and consolation unto the end, and in the end. Amen.
-John Bradford (16th century English preacher)
